Grade Beam Connecting Two Footings/Piers

Grade Beam Connecting Two Footings/Piers

(OP)
Hello all,
I am attempting to understand the design process for using a grade beam to connect two isolated footings/piers. I am young engineer just starting out and am trying to understand the process a little bit more. I was wondering if anyone had any design tips or documents that I can review to help me out?

The situation is this, I have had my brace frames quarantined to a narrow framing bay within a three story building and I am seeing a lot of overturning moment which is producing a lot of uplift on my footings. I have already located these footings below frost level (even though they are at interior columns, the construction will take place through the winter months), so I am taking advantage of as much overburden pressure as possible. However, the net uplift is still in the neighborhood of 100kips.

I would appreciate any advise of information that someone has to offer. Thanks in advance!

RE: Grade Beam Connecting Two Footings/Piers

Generally you'll have to combine the two footings, which then allows you to check overturning of the entire frame about the toe of the combined footing.

Revise your framing to the extent possible to add dead load to the frame as well.
