What is the min/max ID size range of the bearing?
It sounds like you could take advantage of Machinery's Handbook. I imagine they cost $120 new but it will be one of the greatest investments you can make.

The fit depends on many factors. Mandrake22 mentioned some of them.
In metric world (metric bearings - obviously not your case) they use the ISO system of fits. You'll also find it in the Mach. Handbook or in the manufacturer's catalog.
