Need gearing suggestions for winch
Need gearing suggestions for winch
(OP)
I'm building a winch system with a 16" dia. drum (single wrap). The winch is required to lift a 3600# load at 20 FPM. The maximum speed of the winch is 105 FPM.
My Hydraulic motor runs at 660 RPM (max)and requires a minimum of 7:1 gear ratio to achieve the specified torque.
I was going to use 5DP spur gears, 2" wide, (10T to 140T) to drive the drum, but now I'm worried that they won't be able to handle the torque.
Any suggestions?

You're right, the large gear was really 70T not 140T.
I've decided to go witha Fairfield W2B3 torque hub. It's much more expensive but more reliable in the long run.
