Cleaning Cast Iron Before Heat Treatment

Cleaning Cast Iron Before Heat Treatment

Cleaning Cast Iron Before Heat Treatment

(OP)
We currently sonic wash all of our castings before they go into our molten salt baths, but it doesn't clean them will enough. I have been readings into better ways of cleaning and came across electrolytic cleaning. Has anyone done this before and does it work well in a manufacturing environment? Also are there any commercial companies that will clean a sample of our parts? Preferably in the Midwest (Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska. Any insight is much appreciated.

if it can be built it can be calculated.
if it can be calculated it can be built.

RE: Cleaning Cast Iron Before Heat Treatment

What are you trying to remove? Ultrasonic cleaning should do a very good job.

RE: Cleaning Cast Iron Before Heat Treatment

Small parts, after machining, you can use vibro polisher to clean the surfaces before heat treatment. What is the heat treatment you intend to do? Laser hardening ?
