Trim 10

Trim 10

(OP)
My requirement is Gate valve with LCB body & trim 10. My manufacturer is offering trim 10 as below:
Wedge: LCB+316
Stem: F316
Seat: LF2+316

I am new to valves & I request any one to help me by informing me if the above is OK

Dear hsbcn,

Many thanks for your valuable advise. Further, please find below my comments:

As you can see below, the manufacturer is offering LCB+316 overlay for wedge & LF2+316 overlay for seat instead of solid 316. He is offering solid 316 only for stem. Is this acceptable as per API-600. Please advise.

Wedge: LCB+316
Stem: F316
Seat: LF2+316

Dear hsbcn,

Another manufacturer is offering trim 10 as below. Please advise if the below proposal is OK. I would highly appreciate your valuable advise as I am new to valves

Wedge: CF8M
Stem: F316
Seat: F316+STELLITED

RE: Trim 10

Many thanks hsbcn, my specs says 316SS only for wedge, stem & seat & does not mention forgining or casting. Please dvise.

As regards to stellited seat, I will akk my manufacture to remove that as it is not necessary.

RE: Trim 10

Could the stellited seat be provide to avoid SS/SS contact between the wedge and the seat and the potential for galling?

RE: Trim 10

If you stellite one seating surface then it will be API trim 12.

Dear reverman,

Please advise if the below combination is Trim 10
Wedge: LCB+316
Stem: F316
Seat: LF2+316

RE: Trim 10

Procurement2,

What's different about this material than what you posted on October 23? It appears to be identical. Do you think that two different posters are going to give you two different answers? If so, which one will you believe, if you don't know the answer yourself (and how much can you really trust anonymous folks over the internet anyways?)

Didn't hsbcn provide you a link to the API trims so you could check the API trims yourself? Don't you think that's the best way to make a decision?

Dear EnergyMix,

I did not get a clear advise from the members of this forum. hsbcn sent me a link to trims, but it mentions that trim 10 is 316SS. My manufacturer is offering me an overlay of 316 & not a solid 316. My question is if we can accept this overlay. If you can help me, please advise me. I apologize for the trouble.

RE: Trim 10

Go back to your manufacturer and ask him why he is only offering an overlay and not a solid 316. Listen to his reasons. Decide if you can live with those reasons. If not, ask him how much it will cost to get a solid 316 valve, how long it would take and why does or does not think it's a good idea. With that information, decide if having solid 316 is important. If you still can't make a decision, go to your supervisor with the informaton and tell him/her that you're incapable of making a decision as to which is better and you were going to let some anonymous person on the Internet choose for you.

Simply put, I can't make the decision for you. What's being offered to you is a Trim 10 valve. Now it's up to you to decide whether it's acceptable or not.

Please advise if the below combination is Trim 10
Wedge: LCB+316
Stem: F316
Seat: LF2+316

This would be API Trim 10. The API standards do not require solid 316. If your minimum requirement is that the valve meet API Trim 10 then this is acceptable. However if the customer has a requirement that the disc be solid 316 then it's not.

Thank you all.
