very delayed response when selecting, grabbing, dragging, etc. AC04 on Win7
(OP)
I do not fully understand the compatibility issues and how to make older software work with 64bit OS, but when using AutoCAD 2004 with Windows 7, there is a painfully annoying delay between my mouse action and what's going on on the screen. I've played with changing the screen resolution, but that introduced a slew of new exciting annoyances, and I don't really understand why there is such a 'propagation delay'.
I've tried a million ways of searching for this online, autodesk, etc...no luck...hoping it's something simple. Do not see anything concerning a compatibility mode selector (nor does searching Help help). I'm not working on a memory intensive drawing (low kb), and it's local on my machine. I have very few other programs running (email, etc) and this is a brand new dell latitude i5 core quad processor with 4G ram. Anyone got a suggestion?

1. Change compatibility. In windows explorer, find C:/Program Files(x86)/AutoDesk/AutoCAD/autocad.exe. Right-click and select Properties. Choose the Compatibility tab. Check the top box, Run this program in compatibility mode for: and choose XP Service Pack 3 (for starters). At the bottom of the same tab, pick Run this program as an administrator.
2. On your Win7 start menu, click All Programs, then Accessories, then System Tools. Start the Resource Monitor that you'll find in there. I'm not going to go into details here, but it's easy to learn. You can tell what program, what process, what service is using processor time. You might be surprised at what you find, especially if you are running Norton internet security (a huge resource hog).
3. Try a wired USB mouse if your current one is wireless.
Anyway, those are the three things I would try first. There are tons more if they don't relieve your problem. I suggest heading to http://www.sevenforums.com/ next.
Best to you,
Goober Dave
