Determining volume of hollow part/assembly
Determining volume of hollow part/assembly
(OP)
Hello there,
Does anyone know of a way to determine the volume of a hollow part/assembly?
The method I'm using now is very cumbersome:
1. Draw the hollow body as a part.
2. Make a new part, use part copy to insert the part and also check the box for construction bodies.
3. Surface copy all of the outside surfaces.
4. Place a small protrusion inside your surfaces.
5. Boolean unite with the created surfaces, you'll have to hide the part copy.
6. SE creates a solid body and you can find the volume in the physical properties.

RE: Determining volume of hollow part/assembly
Depending on the version prior ST5
1. Draw the hollow body then application button and new assembly
2. Within the assembly create a part in place
3. Edit the new part, using inter-part copy and chain select the interior faces of the hollow body
4. Add surfaces if required and stitch to create a solid body
5. Inspect / Update
With ST5 (just works with parts)
1. Draw the hollow part
2. Add new body
3. Copy interior faces use chain select
4. if necessary add surfaces and stitch to create a solid body
5. Inspect / Update
Best regards

RE: Determining volume of hollow part/assembly
I've tried creating a new part, inserting this assembly as part copy (construction surfaces is the only way due to non-zero blabla) and copying all surfaces, or just the outer surfaces. Either way, there are many gaps left and I cannot simply extend the surfaces to fill the gap..
I'm on ST4, service pack 8 btw.
RE: Determining volume of hollow part/assembly
You should be able to just drag faces to create protrusions.
can you post a picture of what we are dealing with?
