Team working
Team working
(OP)
We are working on a large engine with gearboxes taking drives out for various functions
Different team members are working on different parts of the design.
To make sure every one kept in sync and to update centrally should the design parameters change a 3D sketch file was created with key axis and shapes laid out
This was inserted as a part sketch into each part created and the part was sketched and extruded from the data on this sketch.
Thus if the part sketch was updated all the parts and assemblies derived from this sketch would also update
It works well in the initial stages but is starting to creak a bit
What methods have others used to keep a team in sync and to provide an update solution in the early stages of design when major parameters are likely to need changing.
Not looking for trade secrets but interested to discuss what works well

RE: Team working
If somebody has another way to work on that kind of projects with many people involved I will be very interested to see how it can work better.

RE: Team working
Its always good though to check in the forum if anyone wants to share different methods for discussion from which we can all learn

RE: Team working
Are you using just a sketch, or a sketch within a part?
RE: Team working
Then use PDMWorks to keep everyone at bay working on their own models, the "Skeleton" part is referenced.

RE: Team working
The 3D sketches are saved as a part and inserted as such in further parts and assemblies that become the models
PDM is used to control issue control and status
It is working well so its not broke and doesn't need fixing.
Just happy to hear that it seems to be fairly in line with best practise
RE: Team working
Does anyone see a problem or bad practice in using an interface sketch to align components in a assembly Major flanges are places on a sketch which is saved as a part
This part is inserted into the top level assembly to check that the parts will all come togeather
Hope this is clear what I am trying to do but please ask any questions if its not clear
