Power Import/Export transducer/meter

Power Import/Export transducer/meter

Power Import/Export transducer/meter

(OP)
I am looking for a transducer or power meter with a 4-20mA output to measure three phase power when importing from the supplier and also exporting back onto the supply. We can import up to 6.5 MW and export up to 3 MW. The tranducer we use just now only outputs down to 0 MW import = 4 mA output. Can anyone recommend what I can use.

RE: Power Import/Export transducer/meter

Disclosure first: I am semi-retired from Kele, in that I still have a consulting agreement with them.

Attached is data on a just-released power monitor that keeps separate logs for imported and exported energy (kWh) and provides a 4-20 mA signal for bi-directional kW with 12 mA representing zero, values 4-12 mA representing exported power and 12-20 mA representing imported power.

I agree that it's hard to find a bi-directional meter. Most I have found provide only net imported energy and power. I'm sure there are others, and you may find one by searching for a "four-quadrant power monitor" or similar.

Best to you,

Goober Dave

RE: Power Import/Export transducer/meter

You can also look into a 4 quadrant power meter with 4-20 analog outputs. The benefit being that you can also have communications for future considerations as well as additional info on the HMI of the meter.

I've been working with these lately, replacing similar transducer set ups for RTU installation / upgrades. As the old RTU/SCADA system disappears, the analog signals can then be integrated with the communications protocol of your choice. There are several other great meters on the market that can perform similar functions.

RE: Power Import/Export transducer/meter

The crompton integra 1530 series energy meter works fine, just remember to specify your output optionLink or the vamp 260 energy meterLink
