Composite Layup

Composite Layup

(OP)
Hello,

Does anyone know of a good reference text, standard, or instruction on how to draft and tolerance composite structures (eg. fiberglass panels, carbon fiber & resin etc...).

RE: Composite Layup

Dimension and tol them like other parts. They can be molded and machined how you like.

RE: Composite Layup

ImnotfromMars,

GD&T is independent of fabrication process. What you need to know is what tolerances they can achieve, and what features they can do easily.

Talk to your fabricator. I recall that my tolerances were ±1mm, and that I needed 2° draft angle on the sides. Then they fabricated my part, they asked for my SolidWorks model. They converted this to sheet metal, and they flattened it to get their material pattern.
