Taking wire through Concrete

Taking wire through Concrete

Taking wire through Concrete

(OP)
I am working in a construction site and we need to fix "small watt" bulb
all over a concrete core wall as a decoration.

But we have forgot to put conduit at casting stage of core wall.
Now chipping the wall is only solution. But civil guys not allow
to chip more than 15cm,But available size of conduit is 20mm(3/4inch).

Any suggestion to solve this wiring problem. Please find attached a sample
of how "small watt lights" fit into wall.

RE: Taking wire through Concrete

Interesting.

How are they powered? Line (Mains) voltage or are they low voltage, ie 24VDC from a common power supply?

Power of each lamp is 3W,12V.So for 40 lamps we use 150VA,240V transformer since 240V is
main supply voltage

RE: Taking wire through Concrete

I'm not sure I understood the issue. You have to accommodate a cable conduit of 20 mm diameter in 15 cm [150 mm] concrete and is it a problem?
May be you intend to say 15 mm [instead of 15 cm] it is the permitted digging depth in the concrete. In this case you may use a channel of 10 mm depth and 50 mm wide and to repair the surface with 5 mm plaster [if your cable overall diameter it is less than 10 mm ].

RE: Taking wire through Concrete

Low voltage. Skip the conduit? That is use the concrete as the conduit.

Agree with Keith.

Of course, use listed outdoor rated cable.

RE: Taking wire through Concrete

Sorry for the extra post, I hit the send button by accident while slurping coffee.

I left out that we've done that a zillion times to install outdoor air and/or humidity sensors for building automation systems. Drill, poke cable, go outside and get on the ladder. Stick a fork in it, it's done.

Best to you,

RE: Taking wire through Concrete

That's where I was going by asking the lamp voltage. 12VDC means no conduit necessary, or if you want something, virtually anything will work, it does not have to be official conduit.

RE: Taking wire through Concrete

Whatrever you do, just do not end up embedding any aluminum in the concrete, fasteners, wire, or whatever.
