B31.3 5% Radiography Conformance Requirement

B31.3 5% Radiography Conformance Requirement

B31.3 5% Radiography Conformance Requirement

(OP)
In ASME B31.3

341.4.1

It states that:

"...at least 5% of fabrication. For welds, each welder’s
and welding operator’s work shall be represented."

For example, 1 welder have made 10 joints of for piping with the same size. Does this mean only half of the weld should be examined? Or it should be one whole weld (joint)?

RE: B31.3 5% Radiography Conformance Requirement

The cited reference implies that the whole weld would be examined. However, other requirements such as examination of long seam intersections must be accounted for as well.

"Not less than 5% of circumferential butt and
miter groove welds shall be examined fully by random
radiography..."

RE: B31.3 5% Radiography Conformance Requirement

5% of total complete welds by this welder. If you have 10 complete joints, welded out, sitting on the ground, all done by the same guy. You have to do a complete RT on atleast 1 weld.
