Pin hole in globe valve

Pin hole in globe valve

Pin hole in globe valve

(OP)
We hydotested a globe valve & the testing lab has informed us that there is a pin hole found. Can any one explain me what is a pin hole & what are the consequences of this pin hole & how can this be rectified

RE: Pin hole in globe valve

This post really scares me!
Someone who identified himself or herself as "Procurement2" & "Petroleum" implies they are in the business of buying products (valves) or materials for some phase of the petroleum industry.

But as we read on they do not appear to know what a globe valve is or what it does and what a pin hole in the valve might mean. They apparently are not smart enough to have asked the "testing lab" what they mean by their report. Apparently they also did not ask the "testing lab" how to rectify the problem.

Would you want this person buying valves for your refinery project?

prognosis: Lead or Lag

RE: Pin hole in globe valve

Pin holes are not made by, or for, pins.
They are manufacturing defects.
When a pinholed valve is filled with fluid and pressurized, the fluid squirts out.
In most services, that would be a bad thing.
In a refinery, that would be A Really Bad Thing.

Worse, pinholes don't travel alone.
If there's one, there will be more.
Repair the pinhole you find, and later on, the pinhole that you didn't find will open up and squirt out the contents.
Again, in a refinery, that would be A Really Bad Thing.

The best thing to do is throw away the pinholed valve, and all of its brothers as well, and go buy some proper valves.
