Object following polyline in AutoCAD 2012

Object following polyline in AutoCAD 2012

Object following polyline in AutoCAD 2012

(OP)
My boss "recalls" a command where he thinks he should be able to make an object "follow" a polyline. No, not extrude to a polyline, but move along it. I told him I couldn't recall a command like that but that I'd check here to see.

Thoughts anyone ?

Thanks -

Charley.

RE: Object following polyline in AutoCAD 2012

Closest I know to "follow" is the command "measure". The blocks are copied at specified spacing along the polylne, so sort of looks like it moves with the polyline...
For an actual animation, I think you'd need a routine (lisp, VBA etc)

RE: Object following polyline in AutoCAD 2012

Far more information is needed in your problem description.

The first thing that came to mind was anipath
but no, maybe sweep
no, maybe measure or divide with block
no, new arraypath command

what are you really really trying to do?
Can you attach the file here?

... move along a a polyline is all I got, but semed pretty clear to me - wants an object to move along a polyline. Not duplicate, spin, or array. This was pretty obscure to me too, but he thought he could come to me. I promised I'd check here ! I know there are some basic animation type movement techniques available, but I haven't played with anything of that sort, so I really can't say. I appreciate any help available on this pretty obscure item !

Thanks folks !

Charley.

RE: Object following polyline in AutoCAD 2012

I know with Civil 3D we can define an object (such as a roadway cross section) and run it along an alignment (polyline) to create a corridor. After creating the corridor, the alignment can be modified (shifted horizontally and vertically, extended or contracted) and the corridor is updated automatically.
This is a useful tool for grading linear projects... less so on confined commercial developments.
