WELD A COUPLING ACCORDING TYPE B FIGURE 5-8 FROM API650

(OP)
Hi all,

I have to attach a new fitting in a existing tank. The fitting type is a coupling 1" 3000#.
The thickness of the shell is greater than 10 mm, so i'm not sure if i can weld the new fitting according the type b of figure 5-8 from API 650. In this sketch, API indicated a nozzle with flange.

Thanks for advance,

My interpretation is that you can use any of the configurations shown, it is the joint detail that is important rather than if it has a flange or not. My opinion only.

See Note 9 under the figure, which I think confirms with IFRs' statement.
