Currently working ona engine project where we need to analyze how much space available inside crankcase for connecting rod/crankshaft+counter weight to rotate freely without any interference

Currently using Assembly sequencing to generate a motion envelope ,but problem is its creating a faceted body.measuring gap is not easy because of faceted bodies.another option is Motion simulation

but both of this are need to move out of Modeling mode and run simulation. Is there any easy way to do this in modeling itself. We can rotate crankshaft and it will move con rod along.is there any way we can generate a curve path or trace the path connecting rod travels..

what i need is when i change the con rod or stroke length need this trace/path to be changed

RE: Connecting rod locus UG NX7.5

There should be an option to define 'test' points in Motion Simulation, which I think will do what you're looking for.

However, if you're already creating a Motion Envelope, there's no problem using a 'faceted' body when you perform Assembly Clearance Analysis. Now you will need to create an actual Component into which you will need to move the Motion Envelope 'faceted' body(s), but once you do that, you'll be able to select that Component like any 'normal' Component when performing Clearance Analysis.

RE: Connecting rod locus UG NX7.5

Thanks John, i will try this.

but i am curious know whether we can generate/trace a path in modeling itself [without going to Motion simulation or Sequencing]using Knowledge fusion etc.

main intention is to create a template for futeure use.
