Belt Conveyors

Belt Conveyors

Belt Conveyors

(OP)
When trying to select proper size of belts in a conveyor system, I am reviewing a chart that matches hp to drive a belt to horizontal centers distance...does horizontal centers mean distance from center of belt drives, horizontall?

Or does it mean something else?

~Thanks

RE: Belt Conveyors

Distance from center of drive pulley to tail pulley.

RE: Belt Conveyors

Yes it is the horizontal component from the center of the drive to tail pulley center. The most important factor in horsepower is the change in elevation however. There are many factors required to properly size a conveyor however.

Use the CEMA book 6th Edition. Or better yet get SIDEWINDER or another belt simulaion program. ACtek who created SIDEWINDER also do dynamic simulations of very long overland conveyors. We do hundreds of overland and in plant conveyors every year for everything from coal to gold.
