RE: new EU Directive

That has probably something to do with the EU energy efficiency directive. There is a deadline (August 2015 as far as I know) which is related to efficiency of centrifugal pumps used for building services, households etc.

RE: new EU Directive

Strict efficiency levels for pumps will come into force in the EU in 2013 and 2015. The ErP (Energy related Products) Ecodesign Directive relates to nearly all energy-consuming and consumption-related products, thus including circulation pumps for heating and air-conditioning systems. The stipulated efficiency levels will be introduced in two stages – from 1 January 2013 and from 1 August 2015. Consequently, the sale of around 80% of models currently available on the market will no longer be permitted. The objective is to reduce energy consumption and the resultant CO2 emissions through environmentally sound product design. Some manufacturers high-efficiency models already meet the particularly stringent requirements of the second stage of the EU regulation.
