section along an edge of a cylinder

section along an edge of a cylinder

section along an edge of a cylinder

(OP)
NX 7.5

This is an error that I have run into just about as long as I've been running UG. if I cut a section that is offset from the centerline of a cylinder at same distance of the radius of said cylander I get a section error.

for example:

View name: SX@94
View type: Section view
Error: Modeler error: modeler error: please report fault

I assume this is because it is trying to compute a section with a non-existant width. I know various work arounds from slightly offsetting the section to moving the cylinder a negligibe distance so it is off the section plane. What I want to know is if this is something that will be or has been fixed in future releases?

RE: section along an edge of a cylinder

What is happening is that you're attempting to section of body with a plane which is tangent to the face of the body. When the 'intersection' operation is performed (this is how the 'section' curves are created) it fails due to what in the solid modeling world is called a 'non-manifold' condition. This would be the same issue if you had attempted to Boolean 'add' a cylinder created tangent to the face of a block.
