How to calculate blank size for forming dished end SEMI ELLIPSOIDAL ?

RE: How to calculate blank size for for

Allow extra on the OD for the forming process. Allow over 10% thickness due to forming.

RE: How to calculate blank size for for

The thickness reduction during head forming might be 1% only up to 20% depending on the forming process, just a note from a head former. If a rough figure for the blank diameter works, take the outer diameter of the head times 1.25, you're usually on the safe side then for 2:1 ellipticals and semi-ellipsoidals.

RE: How to calculate blank size for for

A good starting place would be the formula for calculating surface area of a 2:1 head.

A = 1.084 x D^2

Don't forget to inlcude for any straight flange you will want.
