WF5 Drawing Driving Dims - delete vs erase

WF5 Drawing Driving Dims - delete vs erase

WF5 Drawing Driving Dims - delete vs erase

(OP)
We are just now migrating to WF5 from WF3.
In the drawing, I found the ribbon menu to show part dimensions (dims from part, not dims created in drawing).
I was surprised when I right clicked on one of these dims and "delete" was an option. I get the idea of "delete" for dims created in the drawing, but "delete" for part (driving) dimensions? What is the difference between "delete" and "erase" for part (driving) dimensions shown in a drawing? Again, I am talking only in the drawing context, (not part mode or assembly)

Thanks

Michael Kuehnen, Kansas City

RE: WF5 Drawing Driving Dims - delete vs erase

Michael,

Nice Name :)

Delete cannot be performed on Driving Dims If it's performed it will keep them in the part model and just erase them from the screen. You may have had a mixture of Driving and Driven Dims and if so that's why delete was a given option.

Erase for a Driven or Reference Draft dim will allow it to be shown once more whereas Delete will remove it and you can get it back with undo
Is there a Missouri City, Kansas?

Just checked it out, PTC just got rid of the warning message that the dimension can't be deleted because it belongs to the model. As long as the Dimension ID seen by hitting Switch Dimensions is a d# or od# it will not be deleted rd and odd are draft dims Reference and Ordinate and will be deleted. Show All can be performed by selecting the Check All icon above the [OK] [Cancel] [Apply]
