Clear to white polymer/paint

Clear to white polymer/paint

Hi,

New to the forum here. Cheers to engineers.

I'm looking for a polymer that will go from clear to bright white.

This can be through any reasonable pathway that is safe for consumers, for example:

-Heating

-UV treatment

The polymer can be in a monomer state to start with or already polymerized

Let me know if you have any ideas, thanks,

Mike

How about blending in a small proportion of titanium dioxide powder? That's a pretty standard method.

Is there a way someone can do that at home?

I need something that an end user can treat at home to get the effect.

For example, something I was considering was a layer of monomer between two sheets of clear polymer... the monomer would then polymerize and turn bright white when the object was left in the sun.

You need to talk to Chris DeArmit, check for posts by "Demon3", or look over in the polymer engr. forum.

RE: Clear to white polymer/paint

Hello,

I developed and patented a material that does exactly that. It transitions reversibly when heated. More information can be found here:

Note however, the effect will be limited if the material thickness is too thin.

All the best,

Chris

Does anyone know where the OP went? I answered his need but he doesn't see to have seen it.
