Fire Water Pump Deisel Consumption of the Full.

Fire Water Pump Deisel Consumption of the Full.

(OP)
Hello Everyone,

I have a question about the fuel consumption of the tank for a Fire Water Pump Package.

According to NFPA-20 is it required 8Hr Full operation. However, Client is requiring 12Hr as minimum.

I know the capacity of the Tank 550 Gallons, Is there any way that I can work out whether or not those 550 Gallons are sufficient to guarantee the

12Hr full operation of the package?. I have ask the Vendor but they seem not to be sure.

Anyone can give me an Idea?.

Thanks you all and Regards,

Graduate Mech.

RE: Fire Water Pump Deisel Consumption of the Full.

The driver equipment data sheet should provide you with a GPM or GPH rate at a given efficiency (generally 90% per the data sheets I've reviewed) at the engine's rated brake horsepower. With this information you should be able to accurately estimate a fuel demand for a 12 hour load duration.

I have never seen a diesel tank sized for a 12 hour run duration (or maybe I did, but did not realize it). 8 hours is the norm as you note. Why would you need such a long duration? What is the occupancy/fire loading. just curious.

might be an insurance thing or fuel delivary problem thing

or a critical building, that wants a little extra cushion

If the fire is still burning after 8 hours of full fire flow, I would think the fat lady has sung. There are no insurance companies I am aware of that ask for more than 8 hours.
