ASME IX welder qualification question

ASME IX welder qualification question

ASME IX welder qualification question

(OP)
My question is if a welder is qualified with a F3/F4 on 2" xxs and a F6/F5 (GTAW/SMAW) on 2" xxs would they also be qualified on F6/F4 (GTAW/SMAW).

I spoke with the local boiler and pressure vessel office and the "new" person responsible for welding doesn't seem to know for sure.

RE: ASME IX welder qualification question

Yes, by virtue of the having the F3/F4(backing) and the F6/F5 (backing) welder performance qualifications.

RE: ASME IX welder qualification question

He is qualified provided the employer has WPSs that support doing so.

Best regards - Al
