Material for Sodium Hypochlorite

Material for Sodium Hypochlorite

Material for Sodium Hypochlorite

(OP)
For one of the Offshore project NORSOK standard has to be followed. For handling Sodium Hypochlorite injection system, as per the standard, we have to use Titanium or GRP. For the Injection pumps hence , we have to necessarily use Titanium material which are highly costly. Is there any other alternative for this material ?

RE: Material for Sodium Hypochlorite

The best choice of pump may be a lined steel magnetic drive pump. Linings of Teflon®, Tefzel® and other non-metallic materials are used. These pumps may only last from 3-7 years but depending on the pump, 2 or 3 pumps with spare parts can be purchased for the same cost as a titanium pump.
If a magnetic drive pump is used, a power monitor must be used to prevent dry running of the pump and damage to the shaft and bearings. There are many choices of diaphragm pumps for small flow applications. Many choices for the pump housings
are available and successful. The diaphragms can be of Teflon® or some rubber compounds. However, if rubber
compounds are used, Viton® is the preferred choice. EPDM is successful but may not have as long as service life as
Viton®.

RE: Material for Sodium Hypochlorite

Why not a GRP pump? I presume that this a fairly small pump.
I have see Ti housings and plastic impellers used together in this service.
