Change source file location for drawing?

Change source file location for drawing?

Change source file location for drawing?

(OP)
I did a "Pack and go" for my solidworks assembly, and I moved the drawings over. However, the drawings still reference the files in the original location, and do not reference the new files. How do I change my SolidWorks drawings so they refer to the parts that are actually in the new folder location?

RE: Change source file location for drawing?

When doing the P&G, select the Include Drawings & Nested View options.

RE: Change source file location for drawing?

As said, the best thing is to rerun the Pack-n-Go.

If the models file names were not changed, you can also try opening the models first, then the drawings, and save the drawings with the newly-referenced open models.

So, because of version control and disorganization in the team, rerunning the Pack-n-Go is not possible. So, what's a good plan B? I have no problem redimensioning the drawings if I have to. Is there a way I can right click one of the blank views and reassign the object it is referring to? It looks like what I want to do is similar to the second suggestion TheTick made.

RE: Change source file location for drawing?

You can also use SW Explorer to reassign the drawings' references.

RE: Change source file location for drawing?

Copy the drawings to the new parts folder.
Temporarily change the old parts/drawings folder name.
Open the drawings and they should adopt the new parts after not being able to find the old parts location.
Save the drawings.

Thanks CorBlimeyLimey, that's perfect. It forced SW to do exactly what I have been trying to make it do: reference the new file.
