Piping Codes for steel plant

Piping Codes for steel plant

Piping Codes for steel plant

(OP)
Dear Folks:

I am going to begin the design of steel plant, so I need to define the codes for apply.

Do you know what piping codes can I apply for design?

ASME B31.1 Power Plant, motion fluid, generally for electric generation, like steam.
ASME B31.3 Process Piping. Is there some place of steel plant that I can use this kind of code? It covers Oil&Gas, Petrochemical.
ASME B31.9 Building services, This code can apply for services like air, dry air, utility water, demin water, cooling water, argon, O2, pure water, Nitrogen gas, when conditions don't exceed rating #150.

For ducts, services like Blast Furnace Gas, Coke oven gas and converter gas; iis it possible to use SMACNA-ANSI, for industrial application?

there some other services that I can't classify inside of these codes, like: LPG Gas from city, Hydraulic oil, grease.

All of these assumptios are correct? Please your feedback with this.

thanks for the support

B. Regards,

Luis Felipe

RE: Piping Codes for steel plant

You should approach local / national authorities and the plant owner to determine which codes to apply to design engineering. It's probably not your job to decide this.

I don't know of anything specific to steel production so I would reconmmend ASME B31.1 / B31.3, ASME VIII Div 2 and similar.

RE: Piping Codes for steel plant

You should refer to Project specifications provided by your respective client. Within the same, you will find all required codes w.r.t to your design: "ex. piping specification, material selection phylosophy....etc"

All project documents shall be provided to Contractors/Subcontractors as a complete package during bidding/tendering stage. Thus you shall strictly follow the same.

RE: Piping Codes for steel plant

The Owner should define the standard to be used for the plant in the absence of any legislative requirement. ASME B31.3 would be apt as the steel plant involves similar piping/risks etc of a chemical plant.
