Exhaust hood design for filter press drop into bin

Exhaust hood design for filter press drop into bin

Exhaust hood design for filter press drop into bin

(OP)
Hi,
I'm desiging an exhaust hood for a 15' long filter press that will drop cake through a hole in a floor and into a bin. The material is relatively granular but toxic. The workers will be wearing safety equipment. For the hood design, I'm thinking of a slot hood along both sides of the bin (18' long) with a capture v = 150 fpm. This will give a ~100 fpm downward velocity through the floor. Any thoughts on this? Are there standards out there? ACIGH doesn't really address this situation to my knowledge.
Thanks.

RE: Exhaust hood design for filter press drop into bin

Wet filter cake should not be dusty at all. I've often seen ventilation create more problems than it solves, or just move the problem to another location. Look into using disposable liners and sleeves made from plastic film to contain your material.

Thanks for your comments. I think the liners would work great for a holding bin, drum, etc. In my case, I should have been more descriptive. The press will drop into a long rectangular open bin that directly feeds a screw auger that runs the entire length of the open bin. This will drop into an enclosed product bin for further processing.
Thanks again.
