Assembly Hidden Line and NX7.5

Assembly Hidden Line and NX7.5

Assembly Hidden Line and NX7.5

(OP)
We are required to produce 2D homologation drawings of our machines, these consist of front, side rear elevations. In the past (NX4) we used to use the Assembly Hidden Line function from the view menu to extract curves from the bodies of the 3D model and then import these into a completely separate file. These curves would then be projected on to a plane to give a really good 2D view of each elevation. However since we have gone to NX 7.5, we are finding that producing these type of drawings is nigh on impossible as it hangs the NX session. It never did this in the older version of NX, so I was wondering if anyone else had experienced the same problem or has any tips. I have attached one of the raw 3D sets of curves (approx 47000) If you project these on to a plane, then they will make a rear view of a machine.

Cheers

Have you ever looked at the '2D Exchange' option? It can be found at...

File -> Export -> 2D Exchange...

I guess a special licence is required. Bugger sad

RE: Assembly Hidden Line and NX7.5

Why not create the view you need in the drafting application, then export the drawing out as a cgm, then import the cgm into a new file?

Jeff

The whole point is we don't want to create a drafting of the whole machine based on the 3D models as it takes for ever to create the views etc. We also can use light weight reps as we don't have a clean set of smart light weight data as we can't refile due the the complexity of our multisite architecture.

RE: Assembly Hidden Line and NX7.5

I thought the drawing view creation/update might be the issue...

What about setting up your hidden line view in modeling and exporting the cgm directly out from there? I tried a quick test (on a very small assembly) and it flattened the curves onto a plane.

I have just found that my laptop has the licence on it, so I can get the guy up and running by using mine. I'll get on to our friendly Siemens a/c manager and price up a couple of licences for our pool

Cheers gents.

RE: Assembly Hidden Line and NX7.5

I think my 2nd post will get what you want with no special licenses, I didn't even use the assembly hidden line command (which is a good thing since I don't have a license for it). To get the hidden line view, I set the rendering option to "static wireframe" then in the visualization preferences set hidden lines to "invisible". Export cgm, import to new file - done.

RE: Assembly Hidden Line and NX7.5

Simon, there is a faster and simpler solution.
In case you can load the assembly and set it to Wireframe with hidden edges. ( NOT the static wireframe mode but the dynamic mode, far faster.) Then make sure that Preferences - visualization - Visual tab - Edge Display settings - Session settings - Infer edge output = on
and then finally do an cgm export. ( If you miss the preferences -step it will ignore the hidden line mode in the export)

Tomas
