Exploded view in drafting

Exploded view in drafting

Exploded view in drafting

(OP)
Hi,
there is a reason because I need to create exploded custom view in the specification and not in the 3D ?
Exploded custom view in the 3D can be reused into different specification or maybe if I do a 3D save as.
Flat pattern view, arrangement are stored into the 3D part, only exploded view must reside into drawing.
I ask to users if my opinion is shared or I'm alone.

Thank you...

Using NX 8 and TC9.1

RE: Exploded view in drafting

Cuba,
I guess all users agree with you on this.
I think that the reason is that the exploded views was developed many years before NX had the ability to display other objects than the model in a drawing. ( You cannot for example display more than one reference set at the same time.) Then in later versions the ability to display multiple arrangements etc has been developed. Maybe it's time for a facelift on the exploded views function.

Hi Toost,
the maybe can be done only via ER.
Another problem is the impossibility to change the arrangement in the view after positioned.
Anyway, I will add an ER.

Thank you...

RE: Exploded view in drafting

For the time being at least, you will need to create the Exploded view(s) in the same file as the Drawing itself.

That being said, some people have used Arrangements to create pseudo-exploded views and then just added an aditional view based on that Arrangement to the Drawing.

John,
I know you can't anticipate what are you developing for NX, but when you write 'For the time being at least,', means that the desire from SIEMENS PLM to improve the workflow/tool of exploded view command is under review ?
And what about change arrangement in the views is always under review ?

Create arrangement for exploded views is a forcing.

Thank you...

RE: Exploded view in drafting

I vote for both. I would like to see both of those implemented. We do many exploded views here and we have looked into the best way of doing this. Exploding in the spec drawing and or moving components as an arrangment in the assembly. I think we decided on doing the move components in the arrangment in the master assembly simliar like we did in I-Deas.
