Creep data for Nylon 6
Creep data for Nylon 6
(OP)
Does anyone know where I can get compressive creep data for Nylon 6 (not Nylon 6, 6)? I am looking for data going out to 3 years at least or some way of parametrically (e.g. Larson Miller Parameter) extrapolating/interpolating the creep strain to 3 years.

RE: Creep data for Nylon 6
What temperature and load.
I presume Std injection moulding grade with lube and nucleating agents moisture conditioned to equilibrium at 23 deg C at 50% humidity. Degree of crystallinity is an important variable.

RE: Creep data for Nylon 6
We purchased to ASTM D5989 Type 2 (They call it type 6, but I believe they mean Nylon 6 because they refer to the cast/compression molded version). Room temperature, 7ksi. If you have equivalent for compression molded Nylon 6,6 I could use that too. If properties are better than Nylon 6, I might recommend that instead. Sorry, don't know degree of crystallinity. I'll take what you have at this point.
RE: Creep data for Nylon 6
Degree of crystallinity varies by grade, moulding conditions and colours used. The grade and conditions are noted on test results. I am just saying there is a good chance that your mouldings will perform different to the test specimens.
I only have data for injection mouldings

Isochronous stress vs strain for Maranyl Nylon 6 for both controlled crystallinity (nucleated) grade and unmodified grade (basically barefoot resin with minimal mould release lubricant).
Performed over 100 seconds 20 deg C dry specimens.
Horizontal axis is %age strain starting 0.1% strain and finishing 2% strain logarithmic scale.
Vertical axis is stress in psi starting 3 and finishing 10,000
Results are straight lines
First line is unmodified grade starting bottom left at 3.9psi & 0.1% strain & finishing top right 6,000psi & 1.7% strain.
Second line is nucleated grade starting bottom left at 4.2psi & 0.1% strain & finishing top right 6,900psi & 1.7% strain.

If you go here: DSM, click "Material Selector" on right, look down for Akulon K222D (unfilled PA6), click underlined link>properties>Fct on tabs>take your pick of graphs.
