QW-453 Hardfacing Proc. Qual.

QW-453 Hardfacing Proc. Qual.

(OP)
My shop hardfaces complex geometrical parts, sometimes within a bore. Note 2 of QW-453 specifies that qualification can be performed on plate or pipe or alternatively on a test base metal coupon that represents the size of the production part. Using the alternate method of qualification, I was thinking of using a base metal coupon that represents the conditions of the production part, (e.g. welding within a bore). Is my plan in compliance with the intent of Section IX? If so, would removal of test specimens be similar to pipe testing, (QW-462.5(b))?

RE: QW-453 Hardfacing Proc. Qual.

Yes, it is, and sample removal would be similar to pipe overlays except your overlay is on the bore.
