Help with Dumb bell, Synco-Flex - Other Water Stop methods.

(OP)
The concrete lid on a prismatic underground water storage tank was cast without the added flexural and shear reinforcing I called for at the opening. If the deficient area of the lid is recast, I will have a new construction joint. I specify dumb bell water stop at joints typically, but they are always cast in fresh concrete. I have used Synco-Flex waterstop in keyways when the joint is horizontal (hardened concrete low, fresh concrete high), but I have never used it in vertical joints (fresh and hardened concrete side-by-side). The lid will be "waterproofed", but I don't want to omit addressing the joint. I would appreciate comments on your experience.

Thanks

RE: Help with Dumb bell, Synco-Flex - Other Water Stop methods.

I am suspicious of a contractor's ability to correctly place the dumb-bell type waterstop , especially with rebar close to the joint, and usually spec greenstreak or similar hydrophillic type (similar to synko-flex).

RE: Help with Dumb bell, Synco-Flex - Other Water Stop methods.

Greenstreak makes a profile #609, http://www.greenstreak.com/SearchPages/search_subd..., which is appropriate for retrofit applications. It needs to be battened to the surface and then it acts pretty much as a normal waterstop. I'm pretty sure that all the major waterstop manufacturers make something similar.
Note that hydrophilic waterstop only works in the presence of water. If this is a lid, will water be present?

RE: Help with Dumb bell, Synco-Flex - Other Water Stop methods.

The joint should generally not be in the presence of water. If the waterproofing on top keeps water away, the lid will only be in contact with water in an overflow state (not very often).

That being said, I am still leaning more to a Synko-Flex. Thanks to all for comments.
