PWHT hold time for PQR with Charpy impacts

PWHT hold time for PQR with Charpy impacts

(OP)
I understand the Section VIII-D1 rules for hold time of course, but I have a question concerning the following scenario:

(1) WPS was previously qualified without impacts, PWHT hold time 1 hour.
(2) Client wishes to augment the same WPS to add Charpy impact testing, PWHT hold time now 4 hours.

Q: Assuming the tests pass, is it valid to update the entire WPS to reflect 4 hours hold time, since initially it was a non-essential variable?

RE: PWHT hold time for PQR with Charpy impacts

I suppose there wouldn't be code violation to show the hold time as 4 hours, but I don't like the idea of changing a WPS to appease a single client. If the client wants that increased hold time on their job, that is a requirement in excess of ASME and can be handled contractually.

RE: PWHT hold time for PQR with Charpy impacts

Yes, because of the new supporting PQR. Revisions to WPS are permitted with proper justification and explanation.

metengr,
That answer presented itself to me as I wrote the question, but thanks for the confirmation.

Or just create a new WPS. It's common to have separate WPS' for impact tested vs. non-impact tested applications.
