Storage tank saddle bearing shroud

Storage tank saddle bearing shroud

My question is that I have a horizontal liquid storage tank with one floating saddle on teflon pads. These tanks have a high cyclical long from thermal expansion so it will need to allow some flex in it. This will be in a pharmaceutical clean room with a lot of water and steam. What I need help with is designing or purchasing a "skirt" or "shroud" that will prevent water from getting under the saddle and around the bearing pad.I can't have any microbial growth going on here and it will be too difficult to clean. Is there a company out there who can make this for me or is there an example of a design that I go reference?

RE: Storage tank saddle bearing shroud

You really should post this in Storage Tank Engineering.

RE: Storage tank saddle bearing shroud

Trevorsq, you shall rephrase your question to avoid misundersatning. Is it really a "storage tank", or a horizontal vessel. It's better you attach a overall sketch, and point how water and steam will be moving around. When you mention " teflon" pads, my impression is it is a horizontal vessel with two saddle supports since I have designed many of these with teflon pads. And many times, we do call it "storage tank" even it is horizontal vessel, because they so store liquid, but other people may not be familar with the term used.

RE: Storage tank saddle bearing shroud

If its the same tank as in Storage Tank Engineering Forum (which is a different related question) then all posts should all be here or there.

jtseng123, it is a horizontal tank, not a vessel technically. This will not be pressure rated or air tight. I've moved the post here >http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=329495 as this seems more appropriate for that forum. Did not see that on the list of forums when I posted it here. Thanks for you input.

RE: Storage tank saddle bearing shroud

I suggest that you consider encapsulating the saddle base plate with a rectangular bellows.
