Defoaming Additive
Defoaming Additive
(OP)
We're using Dexron III to lubricate a herringbone gear. We're getting a lot of bubbles in the oil. Is there an additive to remove the bubbles from our 40 gpm circulating lube system?

RE: Defoaming Additive
Standard defoaming agents decrease the tendency to foaming, but at the same time decrease the airrelease properties. Use of an agent therefore might make matters worse.
I suggest you check the following:
oil level (may be way to high), temperature (airrelease increases with temperature), settling time.
A defoaming agent should only be used as a last resort...and Dexron III types of fluid usually contain already more then enough.
RE: Defoaming Additive
1. Check the oil level ,if it is too high or too low
2. Check the oil cleanliness , if it is contaminated by dust ,grease or some anti corrision agent..etc.
3. Check the oil return line if it is a circulating system, check if the oil return line mouth is above the oil level
Try another better quality oil if you are sure everything is in good order , Be sure to Flush the system throughly before oil changing.
RE: Defoaming Additive
Even 1 ppm of silicone will degrade anti foam property. Be careful when applying gasket compound (if it is silicone mixture).
Hope this helps
