On a 130-180 gal wetwell for a sewage grinder pump, from what I have been able to gather (and this is not my field) it seems like Fiberglass Reinforced Polyester has been the material of choice. However, they also come in HDPE. What are their any benefits to choosing one material over the other?

RE: Wet Well Material

The criteria that is used in the selection of materials of construction depends on your project constraints.

The criteria include cost, appearance, durability, leakage, corrosion resistance, owner's standards, and resistance to erosion among others. There are also different grades of FRP and HDPE that are available.

In general, either FRP or HDPE will provide satisfactory service in the application that you describe, a small prefabricated commercial or residential sewage lift station design.

The iink below decribes some of the issues when designing a larger lift station.

Thanks, and thanks for the link.

RE: Wet Well Material

We've used HDPE manholes. One problem is that that they have large coefficients of exapansion, so you have to allow for that. Another was that our manholes were in roads. They wouldn't let us put any traffic loads on the manhole, even though our design criteria was clear on that. So we had to pour a seperate slab, isolated from the manhole, that carried the traffic load into grade.
But if you're not in a roadway, a lot of these issues go away.
