When are not necessary a annular bottom plates?

When are not necessary a annular bottom plates?

When are not necessary a annular bottom plates?

(OP)
Hi, i have that change a bottom of tank. The existing tank have a annular bottom plate with the same thickness than the bottom tank thickness, it is 1/4in. The dimension of the tank are: diam 18ft and 24ft of high.
i shall have use the annular bottom plates? or how the tank had been made of materials of 3 group and the maximum product stress for the first shell is less than 160MPa, can i made a bottom without annular bottom plates?
Why design was so?

RE: When are not necessary a annular bottom plates?

First you must ask - how old is the tank? Then ask whether the Tank was designed for all of the loadings it will be subjected too? Then ask yourself are the magnitude of the loads correct(e.g. has seismic loading increased in the area above what the tank was originally designed for (if it was)?

It may not be the case of just installinf a replacement bottom the same as it was originally.

ok, the tank is 30years old... and located in Canary Island, probably they considered the seismic loading. On the side of safety is best done as was done.

RE: When are not necessary a annular bottom plates?

A seismic design for a tank located on the Canary islands is probably a really good idea...

Perhaps some type protection from volcanos should also be considered...

Will the tank contain jet or some other combustable fuel ?
