I've been searching for info on the DBTT's of these two grades with no luck. Are there too many variables to give a general temperature? We want to know when we should be concerned about brittle fractures

RE: L-80 & K55 cold embrittlement

I have come arcoss this problem and what I remeber the transition temperature for casing is around 10C. We had problems with casing breacking while be handled in the yard.

You can aks the mill for lower transition temperatures.

I found some charts relating impact energy and ductile fracture % to low allow steels and came to a similar conclusion.

Thanks kevinnz

Review of ISO/TR 10400 might also suggest to you, that in the casing and tubing design process, temperature is not the only issue in brittle fracture. You may come away with the notion that Charpy testing, A10.SR16, is a requirement in all circumstances, and it then simply becomes a case of working out the lowest temperature that the material will see and setting that as the maximum test temperature. Of course, you can always assist your concerns by specifying a higher PSL with the correct test temperature.
