Part B Examination Book of Specifications
Part B Examination Book of Specifications
(OP)
I am scheduled to take the CWI Exam in September and currently reviewing Part B. I had a question in Appendix VI about the sentence referencing butt joints shall be faired to adjacent plate or shape edges at a slope not to exceed 1 in 10.
I have an example question from REAL Educational Services about A plate 3" thick welded to a 1" thick plate and a transition is made between the two thicknesses. What is the minimum distance for the transition between the plates? The correct answer they have is B. 20". I know this is a simple fundimental math equation, but just can't come up with it right now. Any help on this would be appreciated.
Thanks
A. 30"
B. 20"
C. 15"
D. 10"
E. 5"

Thanks
A. 1/4"
B. 1/2"
C. 5/16"
D. 9/16"
I come up with the maximum of 1/2", but they have the 9/16" as the correct answer. I see the Tolerances (As Fitup +1/4,-1/16). The -1/16 I thought would go towards the 1/4, meaning a minimum of 3/16.
What do you think am I looking at it wrong
Thanks
