(OP)
we need to take brinnel test on vessel nozzles 3=10 " , I can't find a guidline for number of test ,would a average of three /nozzle seem acceptable ,would seem better than one per nozzle

RE: brinnell test

bhart192;
Why are you conducting a hardness test on nozzle welds? Normally, for portable hardness testing you need to have a procedure developed so that the individuals conducting the hardness test can demonstrate proficiency. Next comment – you need to establish an acceptable value for the hardness test results.

RE: brinnell test

ASTM A370 states that the product specification should define the number of tests required. Metengr is correct in that you should have a procedure established prior to doing any testing. It should comply with ASTM A370 and ASTM E10 or their equivalents depending on what specs. you are working too. As far as acceptance criteria, that should come from the product specification and/or the engineers. IMHO, that is a design issue and should be covered in the design either directly or by bringing in any supplementary requirements to the material spec. for hardness testing.

RE: brinnell test

Although hardness is still frequently specified in Brinell, I would use that actual method only for the crudest applications; i.e. I don't much like the method. If you are testing weld heat-affected zones then Brinell is completely out of the question.
