PRESSURE AREA METHOD PD-5500
PRESSURE AREA METHOD PD-5500
(OP)
I have two questions regarding pressure area method of PD-5500-2009.
1- I have to apply pressure area method for nozzle compensation calculations. Nozzle is studded outlet. It is located on hemispherical head. Attachment is set in. There are two sketches in the Code, sketch e and f of Figure 3.5-32. Which sketch I should use for calculating area Ap? sketch e calculates Ap twice as compared with sketch f?
2- My opinion is, sketch e and f are showing two different planes i-e longitudinal and circumferential plane, so both planes should be investigated, any advice please?

RE: PRESSURE AREA METHOD PD-5500
Fig f is for a sphere. I think your hemispherical head is a sphere.
Read the Figure Headings and study some fundamental engineering equations. (i.e. stress(sphere)=PR/2t and Stress(cylinder)=PR/t)
