Small Room Rule - Maximum Room Length?

Small Room Rule - Maximum Room Length?

Small Room Rule - Maximum Room Length?

(OP)
I came across a light hazard occupancy room with two standard doors and a dimension of 18'2 x 30'3 (~550sf < 800sf) so I determine it meets the defenition of a "Small Room". If I spaced my sprinklers along the room width 4'1 _ 10' _ 4'1 and 7' _ 14'3 _ 9' along the room length, both my average sprinkler and individual sprinklers areas are less than 225sf. However the length of the room being over 30' is making me second guess myself. The appendix section of NFPA-13 shows a room length of 30' in the example, but it does not indicate this is a maximum length. Based on the 26'8 width of the room in the Appendix example (d), if the length were any longer the average sprinkler areas would be exceeded. But, this is not the case in my example since the room is only 18'2 wide. Simply asked "Is the 30'3 room dimension too long?" I uploaded a pdf of the image to make it more clear. Thanks!!

RE: Small Room Rule - Maximum Room Length?

I think the area of the small room (800sq.ft.) is the limitation, not the length.

RE: Small Room Rule - Maximum Room Length?

Your layout is fine. NewtonFP is correct with 800sq.ft. limitation.

RE: Small Room Rule - Maximum Room Length?

Good to go as long as room is under 800 and head is not more than nine feet off one wall
