Replacing the File Open dialog box
Replacing the File Open dialog box
(OP)
Hello all,
Is there a way to replace the old and cumbersome NX file open dialog box? It's very hard to navigate through folders, takes up a lot of time and is quite irritating in general.
Attached is an image showing the difference with Powerpoint 2010, which is much better.
Solidworks 2012 uses the Windows 7 style, and pro/e even has it's own dialog box which mimics the Windows 7 style.
So, what's up with NX?
In the meantime, would it be possible to somehow hack NX to replace the default File open dialog box with the Win7 style?

Are you trying to give the guy a heart attack with the TC reference?
CNSZU,
Where does Siemens draw the line on how often to change any part of the interface to suit every user out there? Change it too often and users are going to be playing catch up all the time, which probably doesn't lend itself to productivity. Ever consider that maybe Office 2013 is on the way as well as a brand new Windows OS and they're waiting for that to be the "next best thing" or would you expect it to be changed today then again next year? Ever consider that some users (a large chunk of them) don't migrate to newer NX versions with the same frequency as other (smaller groups) do, so there could be a very large group of users left out in the cold and completely lost the next time they do migrate? Siemens must take these things into consideration else they're apt to lose large customers quite quickly.

For example, try to find "Set print Area" in Excel. In the old uif one knew it was under "file somewhere" and could read it from there.
- And, there is no "Command finder" as in NX. ( at least i haven't found it yet.)

RE: Replacing the File Open dialog box
I don't see how there would be a huge productivity gain, although my file structure is pretty simple.
On the other hand I do not see why what he is asking for was not automatically added. The hook to the OS should be really straight forward. Making the change would not have any effect on users since the split form does not preclude navigating via the old double click to open a folder method.
Am I missing something?
