Sloped light gauge rafters

Sloped light gauge rafters

I have a project with a tower that has a small, monoslope roof. The tower walls are CMU.

The project is mostly light gauge framing (read: no wood framing) so I am considering using light gauge rafters for the tower roof framing. The challenge I am looking at is the end bearing condition. I am not finding any resources on this type of connection. I was hoping Simpson made a light gauge variable pitch connector, similar to their wood offering, but I couldn't find one.

Any other ideas for this detail?

All input is greatly appreciated!

RE: Sloped light gauge rafters

Just use any Simpson clip that is needed to control uplift. However, depending on your loads, a stiffener may be needed at the end bearing to prevent web crippling. Also, blocking or heel strapping may be needed to transfer diaphragm forces into walls.

How about a bent metal clip or angle with an upstanding leg?

Michel

RE: Sloped light gauge rafters

A lot of metal stud suppliers for residential applications have a lot of standard details in their cataloges. Should have one for your application.

The CFSEI (Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute) has some basic details on framing you can look it.

As EOR's we should take the responsibility to design our structures to support the components we allow in our design per that industry standards.
