Is it possible to display part number/revision - name of an item in NX dialogs?

Is it possible to display part number/revision - name of an item in NX dialogs?

Is it possible to display part number/revision - name of an item in NX dialogs?

(OP)
Hello,

I hope this is an easy one as being new to NX its been a bit of a sticky point for our users.

NX7.5 / Teamcenter 8 install
I want to be able to see the part number/revision - name of an item/component in selection areas of NX such as...

- Add component dialog window - this currently is displaying Item name/Revision
- Window selection - changing open windows dialog is displaying Item name/Revision

I'm sure this is an issue with other dialogs as well but these are all I can think of.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

RE: Is it possible to display part number/revision - name of an item in NX dialogs?

There are two ways to do this,
1) set the customer defaults to display the desired property.
I am not sure that you can display "the full line" of "part number/revision - name of an item" since that consist of three properties. but you can get "part number/revision". ( The revision is automatic displayed.)
Before i tell how to do this,
2) Preferences - Assemblies - Descriptive Part Name style will set "the above" in this session only,
per default you can try File Name / Description / Specified Attribute
where "Specified Attribute" opens up a second field where you can enter things like "DB_PART_NUMBER" or similar. -
Make one of your parts the displayed part, then Format - Database Attributes - List, the 2:nd column will contain the available Attibute names that can be entered above.
Play around with these attributes until you find the one you like.

Then: File - Utilities - Customer defaults - Assemblies - General - Miscellaneous - Part Name Style Attribute.
If you set it at the "Defaults Level = Site" all users will get the setting.

Tomas

Tomas,

Thanks for the quick reply.

This preference is manipulating the display but we dont have a single attribute that displays both number and name mad.

Are there operators that can be used to combine two attributes in this preference?
I have tried (/ , :).
Seems like it has to be a single attribute.

Hoping you have additional helps..
Thanks again.

RE: Is it possible to display part number/revision - name of an item in NX dialogs?

I have tried the same before, but never succeeded. My conclusion is only one attribute.
What one probably could do, if skilled...( i'm not) is have "something in the Teamcenter setup" combine two of the "true" attributes into a "descriptive attribute" ( I.e "Number+Name") that was read only from NX but could be used for this purpose.

Tomas

Yep... thats what I was thinking.

Im going to request this from our teamcenter consultants and see what they have to offer.
If successful I will share the outcome with you.

Thanks again for the help.
