Telluric Currents

(OP)
Though I am in Aeronautics... primarily Jet Engines, I am not an electronics buff, but I have a fascination with Telluric currents after reading some about the subject.

I am considering an attempt to build a receiver, a few hundred bucks, low budget attempt :)

I am guessing it is possible to see results with an Electric field sensor & Total field Magnetic sensor, which takes readings from three simultaneous directions to get an accurate orthogonal picture.
I believe it must be able to provide field strength, frequency in Hz, magnetic readings, and magnetic field strengths, to see what is going on within the field.

I am thinking if it is hobby-budget-able, I will contact a friend who builds software and have a windows program show me a representation of the fields either in 2D or 3D.

Does anyone think this is doable?
What is your 2 cents.
