Ultra-sonication in liquid nitrogen

(OP)
Hi. I was asked to post this link here by another member. Several experts offered suggestions regarding the materials of working parts if one attempts to use ultrasonics in liquid nitrogen:

RE: Ultra-sonication in liquid nitrogen

(wow - I may be too late - but...)

PZTs can be found that will work perfectly well at liquid nitrogen temperatures. Indeed, I've personally used bimorph discs as sonar elements at 95K without a hitch and have dunked them in LN2 with no ill-effects. However the bonding method used to attach the transducer to the vessel may need investigation :)

Indeed, plain ol' 304L will be fine for a vessel - 9% Ni steels are nice only for their long-term robustness.

Cheers;
