Hi,

I've already ran some calculations with Autodyn in the field of birdstrike on aircrafts.
I'm currently facing a new challenge and I can't figure out how to solve my problem.

Here's the configuration :

A bird hits the side of a sphere-like object (a video turret)
The turret is held by two rotation axis on its side.

The thing I want to study is whether or not the axis will break in case of a bird strike. The turret is supposed to be infinitely rigid so I've used a very strong material for it and it's a full volume. The axis are made of stainless steel.

My geometry is made with Catia, that's a product including the turret, the two axis and the bird.

I've made two contact regions between the turret's side face and the axis face in contact with the turret. The contacts are breakable with the same value than the strengh of the axis steel. I used a contact sizing on the mesh to be sure that the axis and turret mesh are consistent.
The external sides of the axis are held in place by a fixed support.
The mesh size is around 25000 elements.

When running the simulation, the calculation crashes as soon as the bird strikes.

I don't know what my problem is and I'm running out of ideas. Maybe trying to model the turret as a shell might be better (and less CPU consuming) than a full volume. Is my idea of a very strong material good ? Shall I make the turret as a rigid body instead ?
