Australasian-Peruvian

Australasian-Peruvian

Australasian-Peruvian

(OP)
I met a guy this week who was born in Peru and is now a citizen of Australia. I told my wife he was an Austro-Peruvian and she said "he's from Austria?". Obviously I got that one wrong, but what would be the right way to say it?

"Belief" is the acceptance of an hypotheses in the absence of data.
"Prejudice" is having an opinion not supported by the preponderance of the data.
"Knowledge" is only found through the accumulation and analysis of data.

RE: Australasian-Peruvian

Peruvian-Australian?

RE: Australasian-Peruvian

Depends on whether he is a dual citizen. If not, just Australian from Peru.

RE: Australasian-Peruvian

(OP)
Those are all so pedestrian (he does have dual citizenship I think). I was looking for something obscure that was nonetheless grammatically correct.

Hey, you? Or, Kanga-ruvian?

RE: Australasian-Peruvian

We'll just call him "Mate" until we think of a nickname that suits.

RE: Australasian-Peruvian

RE: Australasian-Peruvian

(OP)
We have a winner. Ozzie-perv is perfect.

RE: Australasian-Peruvian

Well one of our prehistoric ancestors is called Australopithecus meaning southern ape. Using the same Australo- prefix we get aurora australis the southern compliment to the northern lights, aurora borealis, and the name for Australia itself, so How does Australoperuvius man sound? As long as he doesn't take it a slight to suggest he's somehow less evolved.

Remember, first define the problem, then solve it.

RE: Australasian-Peruvian

Should it not be heritage-nationality? Depending on whether I'm referring to my paternal or maternal heritage, I'll say I'm Sicilian-American or Irish-American. (There are times when I refer to myself as a MicWop, but then some moron gets their panties in a bunch and accuses me of being a bigot, but I digress). So, going off of that wisdom, he'd be a Peruvian-Australian as CBL so astutely pointed out at the beginning of this thread.

RE: Australasian-Peruvian

of course "Ozzie Perv" could be translated into "Digger Deviant" but that'd dilute the nationality being expressed.

RE: Australasian-Peruvian

Ozzie-Perv could apply to many inhabitants, regardless of nationality.

RE: Australasian-Peruvian

You could try Ozzieroo - a litle more subtle than Ozzie-Perv

It is a capital mistake to theorise before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts. (Sherlock Holmes - A Scandal in Bohemia.)

RE: Australasian-Peruvian

Ozzieroo both refers to his Australian heritage.

But Peruviroo doesn't sound bad.
